This year on Thanksgiving, as I'm trying to make the perfect gravy, I'll be reflecting for all of the things I'm thankful for:
1. I'm thankful that when I eat my turkey dinner, I won't have to finish in under 10 minutes.
2. I'm thankful that if there is an injury on one of the football teams, which I would never hope for, I won't be the one responsible for notifying his family or getting on the walkie-talkie to tell the office.
3. I'm thankful that I teach children because I can use them as the excuse for why I may download the new Bieber album this weekend. "Is it too late now to say sorrrrrrry?"
4. I'm thankful that before serving the food I slaved away on, I won't have to check the allergy list. In fact, I'm thankful that I CAN slave away on a homemade meal, instead of serving something from a store-bought package.
5. I'm thankful that I can use real knives to cut my food.
6. I'm thankful that when it's time for cleanup, we have heavy-duty sponges instead of wiping off all surfaces with baby wipes.
7. I'm thankful that after a few glasses of wine, my husband is more willing to help grade papers.
8. I'm thankful for Adele's new album. This has nothing to do with teaching, but OH, THE FEELINGS!!!!
9. And while I'm already off topic, I'm also thankful that my job isn't nearly as stressful as Olivia Pope's. I mean, the WORST day in the classroom is nothing compared to the messy cleanups they have on "Scandal". I plan on spending the better half of my first day off cooking pies and watching Olivia Pope run DC! #TeamFitz
10. All kidding aside, I am truly blessed to have a job that I love. I wake up every morning and get excited for the day ahead. I love those little 9-and-a-half-year-olds with all of my heart and I can't wait to hear their updates next week about how much jello they consumed. I am also beyond lucky to have the most unbelievable teammates in the world. They pick me up when I'm down and inspire me to work harder each and every day. The spontaneous interpretive dance parties don't hurt either. I am so thankful for each one of you.
Happy Thanksgiving, from my classroom to yours!
